Support group for partners of transgender & transexual people
We would like to establish a support group for partners of transgender/gender variant people. Vikki Sinnott & Dr Fintan Harte will facilitate the group; we ran the group some years ago and it was highly successful. We are both experienced therapists with a strong interest in transexualism and the needs of partners.
The Support Group will be a confidential 10-12 week program where partners can explore and discuss relationship and gender issues. The focus will be on the experiences, needs and concerns of the members of the group. There will be time to discuss the impact of your partner’s identity and transition on YOU, your relationship and your family.
In addition to sharing information and resources, members wil l be able to learn different strategies for dealing with their issues. The group will be a supportive space for partners to pay attention to themselves and talk freely about their experience.
There will be no direct cost for participation – a referral from your doctor will be required so we can bulk bill the sessions.
